The Block 2012

***edit***

Previously there were some photos here that showed the backyard and the interior of one of the houses.

These have been removed following a request from the Nine Network.

Yesterday I took a little trip to the The Block.

Here are the houses when the renovations began...

Pretty ordinary, huh?

Wanna see the finished product?

Of course you do!

Ta-da!

Pretty cool, huh?  I really like how they all look the same.  Last year they were all different.

All the same, except for different coloured doors and slightly different plants in the gardens.  I really like the grey woodwork.

Notice the subtle marketing in the letterboxes?

All in all, I think they've done a fantastic job.  It's on a busy road though, not sure how it will cope with the influx of people on the open days, there were quite a few people there on a normal Saturday afternoon.

Do you watch The Block?  Who do you think will win?

  1. OOOOOOOOOOH AWESOME!

On the inside it looks really similar to last year don't you think?

But I ADORE the outside. I have always wanted a house with a red door.

    1. Yeah, it does look similar to last year. I love the outside too! I'd love a purple door though.

  3. We visited on Saturday morning. I couldn't believe how all the Georgian features on the exterior had gone. All of the houses surrounding The Block had such an old world feel to them and The Block felt cold and austere.

  4. It is disappointing that they did not keep the exterior sympathetic to the area but not unexpected after Dan and Dani won tonight's challenge after stripping out every period feature in the room.

The lack of wrought iron on the balconies is a let down also.

The gardens (such as they are) are always quite bland on the block.

Here hoping that next's years finish product will be more inspiring.

  9. I have completely missed The Block phenomena. Too busy watching all the other stuff.... The Voice has me pretty taken at the moment. I think I'd probably like it though. Those letterboxes are pretty cool, even if they are subliminal advertising :)

  10. Wow ! Love the one with the red door ! We live around the corner from "The Block" of 2010. They're also on a main road. The lines for the open house inspections were insane !

  11. Hi Jo, just found your blog, you've had some publicity ;) I'm recapping The Block episodes, and some other reality shows, on my blog, hope you check it out.
    Cheers, Veronica.

  12. It's exciting to see them finished. I'm not a fan of the rendering colour though, it's too light, and I would rather see all the front doors be painted in grey, black or even red. The balcony railings and posts could also be more decorative and in keeping with the style of these homes. I like the uniformity of them though and from these photos the exteriors look a lot better finished than those of last season.
