The Block 2012

***edit***

Previously there were some photos here that showed the backyard and the interior of one of the houses.

These have been removed following a request from the Nine Network.

Yesterday I took a little trip to the The Block.

Here are the houses when the renovations began...

Pretty ordinary, huh?

Wanna see the finished product?

Of course you do!

Ta-da!

Pretty cool, huh?  I really like how they all look the same.  Last year they were all different.

All the same, except for different coloured doors and slightly different plants in the gardens.  I really like the grey woodwork.

Notice the subtle marketing in the letterboxes?

All in all, I think they've done a fantastic job.  It's on a busy road though, not sure how it will cope with the influx of people on the open days, there were quite a few people there on a normal Saturday afternoon.

Do you watch The Block?  Who do you think will win?

Iron Sky

Have you heard about the movie, Iron Sky?  I hadn't until this morning, but it looks kinda cool.  I definitely think Chyken will like it.  It is released in Australia on May 10th, 2012.

As World War II came to a close, several German scientists deployed Nazi spaceships to the dark side of the moon to establish a military base from which they could once again strike out at the countries of Earth. Now, in 2018, they’re coming back.

Wanna see a preview?

You can see Iron Sky at your nearest Hoyts.  Mine is Hoyts Melbourne Central.  They have Xtremescreen and Director's Suite.  I've also heard great things about the Bean Bag Cinema, and one day I will check it out for myself.

*Writing this post gets me tickets to see the movie.  In the posh Director's Suite at Hoyts.  AND popcorn.  I heart free stuff. Amen.

Hindsight - Part Three

The Gambler's Help Significant Others series highlights how speaking with a gambler about their problem isn’t easy, so before you talk to them, start by talking to
Gambler’s Help. 1 in 4 people who contact Gambler’s Help aren’t problem gamblers at all. They’re just friends and family who want to help someone with a gambling problem.

This is the third and final post in the series of posts I'm writing about Gambler's Help.  I hope that the posts I have done on the subject here and here have helped someone.

Gambling is a huge problem in Australia, but it's not often talked about.  Luckily for me, I have never had a gambling addiction.  I have spent a fair amount of time smoking though and I'm sure some people think I am addicted to social media (you can find me on Facebook here and Twitter here!).  I would like to think that if I was struggling with addiction that my friends would be there for me, I would also like to think that I would be there for them if they needed me.

I know that when Fred and I parted, not having the stress of wondering where my next meal was coming from, or how much of our money he was spending was a HUGE relief.  There's no doubt that gambling contributed to the demise of our relationship.

I can't do a follow up with Fred, see how he is getting on, as I haven't seen him in years and his Facebook page I stalked gave me no clues.  But if there are people in your life struggling with any sort of addiction, please make sure you check in on them.  Just because someone admits they have a problem, and gets help doesn't mean they won't struggle again at some point.  Talking about it might help them.  Even if it doesn't seem like it at the time, they will think about it later and maybe they will get the help they need.

Gamblers Help really do great things, and they CAN help.  If you need them, they are only a phone call away!
